Allison Parker, Mass NOW’s Co-VP of Action, may be new to the Bay State, but she is certainly not new to the National Organization for Women.

The gender studies professor first became involved with the feminist organization as a graduate student when she started a chapter of NOW at Arizona State University in 2007.

Parker, who joined the Mass NOW Board in late 2017, took a break from her classes to chat about feminist quotes, her woman crush, and more.

Q: What’s your favorite feminist quote and why?

A: “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” — Alice Walker

This is one of my favorite quotes because it is a good reminder that negative thinking is the biggest barrier to change, and it is important to remember how powerful we all are—both individually and when we work together.

Q: Who is your current woman crush?

A: Cher—always and forever. But lately, it has been Leslie Jones. She demonstrates that you can achieve your dreams at any age, and she lives her life with absolute joy. I try to do that every day.

Q: If you could be an article of clothing, what would you be?

A: I would be a stiletto because I am glamorous, to the point, and if you try to wear me out, I will hurt you.
