Kate Symmonds joined the Mass NOW Board of Directors as Co-VP of Legislation in December 2017. Here, she chats about Mass NOW’s legislative priorities and gives some advice for all young feminists out there.

What inspired you to join Mass NOW?

Mass NOW has an incredible legislative agenda that addresses a broad range of intersectional justice issues, including reproductive rights, racial justice, LGBTQ equality, and economic equality. I’m thrilled to be joining Mass NOW’s Board of passionate feminists to help Mass NOW realize its legislative goals.

What advice would you give to young feminists feeling discouraged by today’s political environment?

Get involved—it will make you feel better. Although today’s political environment is deeply demoralizing, the voice of feminism is stronger than ever. From the Women’s March on Washington to the #metoo movement, women are speaking up and not backing down. Now is the time to make your voice heard.

What’s one big achievement you’re working toward right now?

Raising my one-year-old son to be decent human being and, of course, a feminist.
