This March marks three years since Mass NOW first convened the MA Menstrual Equity Coalition. Yesterday, the MA Senate voted unanimously to pass the I AM bill!
This Senate vote is a historic marker for Massachusetts feminist policy. This is the first time menstruation and period poverty are discussed as public issues on the Senate floor. This vote signifies a huge step towards remedying the financial burden so many people who menstruate bear.
Thank you to the hundreds of people who have written your legislator in support of the I AM Bill, shared your stories about period poverty, and continue to organize menstrual product drives around the Commonwealth.
Menstrual dignity is a human right. Join us in calling on Speaker Mariano to bring the I AM Bill to a vote in the House so in Massachusetts we can finally say: the state will provide menstrual products just like it does toilet paper in schools, shelters, jails and prisons statewide.
Join the Mass NOW Board and members for an in person member appreciation night to celebrate all we’ve accomplished this year already!
In February we announced our first state grant, $150,000 to launch a menstrual product program throughout Fall River and earlier this year the Massachusetts Senate unanimously voted to pass the I AM bill to Increase Access to Menstrual products, one historic step closer to becoming law!
If your not already, become a Mass NOW member to help us bring the I AM bill to the finish line and fight for a feminist democracy!
