Our Coalition Work
Our coalition work enables us to partner with other organizations and coordinate efforts to pass legislation for equal status of women and girls in the Commonwealth. Our coalition work brings together labor unions, advocates, businesses, government officials, and community organizations to foster a more progressive community.
Mass. NOW is a member of seven coalitions:
- ACT!! was a key voice in the successful campaign to pass comprehensive health care legislation in Massachusetts, and we have now turned to ensuring that the law is implemented fairly and that access to quality affordable health insurance is a reality for all residents of the Commonwealth.
Coalition for Choice
- The Coalition for Choice works to file and pass pro-choice legislation and to counter anti-choice initiatives. In addition, we work to improve access to reproductive and sexual health information and services and to promote health equity across the Commonwealth.
- The mission of the Family Economic Initiative is to increase the economic security of low-income families adversely affected by welfare reform. Women heads of household comprise close to 95% of Massachusetts’ welfare cases.
- Mass Alliance provides leadership for the progressive community, cultivates and empowers new progressive leaders, seeks out progressive champions for legislative office, and participates in campaign strategy for progressive candidates.
Massachusetts Jobs with Justice
- Massachusetts Jobs with Justice fights for workers' rights, immigrants' rights, health care justice, and global justice. We organize unions, labor leaders, and activists to support community justice struggles and promote solidarity.
Massachusetts Paid Leave Coalition
- The Massachusetts Paid Leave Coalition educates the public and policymakers about the critical need for policies that provide workers with access to paid leave, specifically paid sick days, which help low-wage workers stay employed.
Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition
- The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition is dedicated to ending discrimination on the basis of gender identity or gender expression. This legislative session, we are focusing our energy on passing the Transgender Equal Rights Bill.
