Women’s Equity Project – Feminism in Action Grant Award 2016
August 16 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Boston based chamber group NorthStar Duo and Community Organizer Zahra Ohldin are excited to announce the production of their Women’s Equity Project. Co-Producers Adrienne Baker and Zahra Ohldin professionally bonded in 2015 over their mutual desire to see more diverse representation in the arts. With NorthStar Duo chamber music partner Seychelle Dunn-Corbin, they have worked to champion and celebrate works by underrepresented composers and by bringing attention to the overarching opportunity disparity that exists in the arts and, by extension, in the workplace at large. According to the League of American Orchestras, in 2015, four percent of their musicians were Black or Latino. With this concert, lesser known composers will be highlighted and a conversation will be fostered regarding pay equity.
Thanks in part to funding from the Feminism in Action Grant awarded by the National Organization for Women, on August 16th at 6:30 p.m. at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury, these collaborators will come together to present a concert of works by African American Women composers which will be performed by an all women ensemble.
