Feminism in Action Contest: Application Requirements
- Applicant(s) must be 18-26 years of age at the time of entering the contest.
- Applicant(s) must live in Massachusetts during the time of the project’s implementation.
- Material must be the original work of the applicant(s).
- Applicant(s) must agree to submit a written report at the conclusion of the project, along with providing informal quarterly updates.
- Submissions must include:
- Executive Summary (1/2 page max):
- Summarize your entire project, the problem it seeks to address and the proposed solution.
- Be sure to highlight:
- Originality of your ideas and how it aims to inspire others.
- How your proposal relates to Mass. NOW’s priority issue area(s).
- Breadth of impact of your project on the identified social problem.
- Sustainability of your work following the project’s conclusion.
- Statement of Need (1/2 page max):
- Project Description (1 page max):
- Budget and Calendar (2 pages max):
- Mentorship (1 paragraph max):
- Completed registration form (available by request).
- What issues does this project intend to address?
- Why is this project necessary on a community-wide basis?
- Why is this issue particularly important to you?
- Describe the nuts and bolts of how the project will be implemented and evaluated.
- Provide an implementation plan, including a description of the types of materials and/or labor that will be needed to execute the project.
- How should the success of the project be evaluated? (i.e. number of events, number of participants, etc.)
- What is the projected timeline?
- Who is the intended audience?
- Provide a financial description of the project, with explanatory notes as necessary.
- How will the contest proceeds be used to implement the project? (Proposed budget must not exceed $3,000.)
- Provide a month-by-month breakdown of the implementation of your project for 2014.
- Sample budgets and calendars are provided at the end of this packet.
- Mass. NOW has connections with feminists in nearly every profession imaginable. Tell us what kind of mentor support would be most helpful for you (lawyer, professor, policy expert, accountant, etc.).
- Deadline:
- The final deadline to apply is August 31, 2013. Undergraduate students will have an extended deadline to submit their applications; check the Mass. NOW website for more information.
- Any applications submitted by July 14, 2013, will be considered an “early applicant,” and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The judging panel may contact early applicants to discuss any questions, suggestions, or concerns in order to improve early applicants’ chances of winning.
Feminism in Action Contest: Judging Criteria
- Degree of relationship to Mass. NOW’s priority issue area(s).
- Originality of ideas and ability to inspire others.
- Breadth of impact on the identified social problem.
- Sustainability of the work.
- Effectiveness of implementation plan, including the feasibility of the project to be completed successfully within the budget and timeline.
- Potential for success, as evaluated by the criteria proposed by the applicant.
