Our Structure
From National to State to Local NOW Chapters
NOW began as a grassroots organization and continues to draw its strength from the nationwide network of local NOW chapters. These local chapters receive support from Mass. NOW and national NOW, though they focus on the issues within NOW's purview that are most relevant to their local communities. Massachusetts has nine local chapters: Acton, Greater Boston, Greater Springfield, Lexington, Martha's Vineyard, MetroWest, North Shore / Cape Ann, South Shore, and Worcester.
Similarly to the local chapters, Mass. NOW focuses on statewide activities, issues, and legislation. We receive support from national NOW, while providing support to the local state chapters. This coordinated effort ensures that each NOW organization is concentrating on the issues most important to their jurisdiction, and yet that NOW, as a whole, is consistent in its mission.
Mass. NOW's Three Organizations
Mass. NOW consists of three organizations: the Mass. NOW Foundation (a 501(c)(3)), Mass. NOW Inc. (a 501(c)(4)), and our Political Action Committee (PAC). Our 501(c)(3) seeks to achieve change through education and outreach. Our 501(c)(4) works toward the same goals through legislative advocacy and lobbying. Lastly, our PAC complements these efforts by supporting and endorsing progressive legislators who are champions of equality and women's rights.
