Preferred Qualifications: The Mass NOW Inc. and Mass NOW Foundation treasurer will ideally have a background in finance, taxation, or accounting.  CPAs, professional bookkeepers, or tax professionals preferred.  Familiarity with Quickbooks or a similar program required.  Good organization and communication skills and a commitment to feminist issues are a must.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Pay bills, submit bills, and deposit checks for Mass NOW Inc. and Foundation;  
  • Maintain databases and accurate books;  
  • Prepare reports for board meetings of Mass NOW Inc. (monthly) and Mass. NOW Foundation (every two months); 
  • Collaborate with boards to create annual budget;    
  • Balance/reconcile checkbooks and accounts for Mass NOW Inc. and Foundation;  
  • Supply petty cash to Mass NOW office;  
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Operations and potential office staff member to ensure proper document management;
  • Track and administer grant funds for Feminism in Action Grantees;
  • Maintain debit card records;  
  • Process credit card transactions;  
  • Manage payroll and health insurance for employee by coordinating with payroll service and health insurance provider, if a staff member is hired; 
  • Coordinate with liability insurance provider;  
  • Respond to requests from President, office staff, officers, and chapters;  
  • File annual 1099s, etc;
  • Prepare materials and work with tax preparer. 

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month on average.  Attendance at monthly Mass NOW Inc. executive board meetings and bimonthly Mass NOW Foundation board meetings is required.

About the Volunteer Position:  The VP of Operations will serve on the Mass NOW Inc. and Mass NOW Foundation boards, which are fun-loving, all-volunteer, multi-generational boards of committed, vibrant, passionate individuals.  The boards play an active role in the work of the organization, including all our lobbying advocacy, educational work, and administrative support for the chapters.    

 VP of Operations Responsibilities: 

  • Work with President and other board members to maximize operational effectiveness and efficiency 
  • Manage Mass NOW’s Database Consultant as the organization transitions to a new database in 2020
  • Conduct weekly or biweekly visits to Mass NOW’s office to check mail and manage follow-up
  • Manage Mass NOW’s receivables and collaborate with Treasurer as needed
  • Oversee all state filings for the organization
  • Oversee the logistical on-boarding of all volunteer and staff positions 
  • Serve as administrative liaison for Board as needed

General Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Learn about Mass NOW, read financial reports and other Mass NOW documents, and keep up-to-date on Mass NOW programs, finances, and management.
  • Consider yourself an ambassador of Mass NOW and advocate for the organization as frequently as possible.
  • Be a current member of Mass NOW and attend Mass NOW events.
  • Attend all Mass NOW board meetings, unless in the case of personal or family illness, or extenuating personal obligation. Members are expected to participate in meetings in person or by phone (only when necessary), using fair, independent judgment, and due care in conducting the business of Mass NOW. Any more than two unexcused absences from Mass NOW board meetings will result in possible termination from the board.
  • Remain on the Board for a term no less than 24 months.

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month on average.  Attendance at monthly Mass NOW Inc. executive board meetings and bimonthly Mass NOW Foundation board meetings is required.

Volunteer Postion Description:  The VP of Membership will serve on the Mass NOW Inc. and Mass NOW Foundation boards, which are fun-loving, all-volunteer, multi-generational boards of committed, vibrant, passionate individuals.  The boards play an active role in driving the work of the organization, including all our lobbying advocacy, educational work, and administrative support for the chapters.     

Preferred Qualifications: The Mass NOW VP of Membership will ideally have a background in grassroots organizing and outreach.  A strategic thinker with excellent communication, organization skills, and a commitment to feminist issues are a must.  

 VP of Membership Responsibilities: 

  • Update the Mass NOW database, MemberPlanet, with new members recruited through National NOW quarterly
  • Solicit and update contact information for Mass NOW members annually
  • Build relationships with Mass NOW members by conducting  one-on-one meetings
  • Connect members to volunteer opportunities across Mass NOW initiatives & promote high turnout at Mass NOW events
  • Draft & send regular communications to Mass NOW members
  • Collaborate with VP of Operation and VP of Fundraising to segment member lists based on interests, frequency of engagement, and giving capacity.

General Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Learn about Mass NOW, read financial reports and other Mass NOW documents, and keep up-to-date on Mass NOW programs, finances, and management.
  • Consider yourself an ambassador of Mass NOW and advocate for the organization as frequently as possible.
  • Be a current member of Mass NOW and attend Mass NOW events.

VP of Fundraising
Board position, unpaid

The VP of Fundraising will serve on the Mass NOW Inc. and Mass NOW Foundation boards, which are fun-loving, all-volunteer, multi-generational boards of committed, vibrant, passionate individuals. The boards play an active role in driving the work of the organization, including all our lobbying advocacy, educational work, and administrative support for the chapters. 

Preferred Qualifications: The Mass NOW Co-VP of Fundraising will ideally have a background in grassroots organizing and outreach, development, and donor stewardship. A strategic thinker with excellent communication, organization skills, and a commitment to feminist issues are a must.  

VP of Fundraising Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and execute the annual Feminist Affair, Mass NOW Foundation’s annual fundraising event.
  • Organize giving campaign to support Mass NOW’s lobbying and advocacy agenda.
  • Collaborate with Mass NOW board and staff to maintain a comprehensive list of donors and donor information.
  • Manage winter and summer appeal, including: writing, printing, and mailing appeals as well as identifying who should receive appeals.
  • Develop relationships with major donors and build their leadership as donors to Mass NOW.
  • Collaborate with boards to develop an organization-wide fundraising strategy.
  • Explore and pursue grant proposals to support Mass NOW’s recruitment, education, and advocacy work.

General Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Learn about Mass NOW, read financial reports and other Mass NOW documents, and keep up-to-date on Mass NOW programs, finances, and management.
  • Consider yourself an ambassador of Mass NOW and advocate for the organization as frequently as possible.
  • Be a current member of Mass NOW and attend Mass NOW events.
  • Attend all Mass NOW board meetings, unless in the case of personal or family illness, or extenuating personal obligation. Board members are expected to participate in meetings in person or by phone (only when necessary), using fair, independent judgment, and due care in conducting the business of Mass NOW. Any more than two unexcused absences from Mass NOW board meetings will result in possible termination from the board.
  • Prepare brief reports for board meetings of Mass NOW Inc. (monthly), State Conference (annually) and Mass NOW Foundation (every two months).
  • Remain on the Board for a term no less than 24 months.

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month on average. Attendance at monthly Mass NOW Inc. executive board meetings and bimonthly Mass NOW Foundation board meetings is required.

VP of Communications

Board postion, unpaid

VP of Communications Responsibilities: 

  • Help manage the communications strategy for the organization
  • Develop relationships with the media and serve as the media representative
  • Write and distribute press releases
  • Manage interns or content developer to optimize social media usage for legislative victories, membership growth, and fundraising success
  • Work with the board to develop print collateral to help build membership for the organization
  • With VP of Membership and others, produce and manage regular email newsletters and action alerts
  • Edit fundraising solicitations and other communications to members and supporters
  • Work with Board members and staff to develop effective messaging for legislative initiatives, member recruitment and fundraising

 

General Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Learn about Mass NOW, read financial reports and other Mass NOW documents, and keep up-to-date on Mass NOW programs, finances, and management.
  • Consider yourself an ambassador of Mass NOW and advocate for the organization as frequently as possible.
  • Be a current member of Mass NOW and attend Mass NOW events.
  • Attend all Mass NOW board meetings, unless in the case of personal or family illness, or extenuating personal obligation. Member are expected participate in meetings in person or by phone (only when necessary), using fair, independent judgment, and due care in conducting the business of Mass NOW. Any more than two unexcused absences from Mass NOW board meetings will result in possible termination from the board.
  • Remain on the Board for a term no less than 24 months.

Time Commitment: 8 to 10  hours per month on average.  Plus attendance at monthly Mass NOW Inc. executive board meetings and bimonthly Mass NOW Foundation board meetings ( 2 to 3 hours per month)
