VP of Membership
Board of Directors position – unpaid

The VP of Membership will serve on the Mass NOW Inc. and Mass NOW Foundation boards, which are fun-loving, all-volunteer, multi-generational boards of committed, vibrant, passionate individuals.  The boards play an active role in driving the work of the organization, including all our lobbying advocacy, educational work, and administrative support for the chapters.   

 Preferred Qualifications: The Mass NOW VP of Membership will ideally have a background in grassroots organizing and outreach.  A strategic thinker with excellent communication, organization skills, and a commitment to feminist issues are a must. 

VP of Membership Responsibilities:

  • Update the Mass NOW database, MemberPlanet, with new members recruited through National NOW quarterly
  • Solicit and update contact information for Mass NOW members annually
  • Build relationships with Mass NOW members by conducting  one-on-one meetings
  • Connect members to volunteer opportunities across Mass NOW initiatives & promote high turnout at Mass NOW events
  • Draft & send regular communications to Mass NOW members
  • Collaborate with VP of Operation and VP of Fundraising to segment member lists based on interests, frequency of engagement, and giving capacity.

General Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Learn about Mass NOW, read financial reports and other Mass NOW documents, and keep up-to-date on Mass NOW programs, finances, and management.
  • Consider yourself an ambassador of Mass NOW and advocate for the organization as frequently as possible.
  • Be a current member of Mass NOW and attend Mass NOW events.
  • Attend all Mass NOW board meetings, unless in the case of personal or family illness, or extenuating personal obligation. Member are expected participate in meetings in person or by phone (only when necessary), using fair, independent judgment, and due care in conducting the business of Mass NOW. Any more than two unexcused absences from Mass NOW board meetings will result in possible termination from the board.
  • Remain on the Board for a term no less than 24 months.

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month on average.  Attendance at monthly Mass NOW Inc. executive board meetings and bimonthly Mass NOW Foundation board meetings is required.

Database Coordinator
Paid internship

The database coordinator will work with the Mass NOW Inc. and Mass NOW Foundation boards, which are fun-loving, all-volunteer, multi-generational boards of committed, vibrant, passionate individuals.  Mass NOW is a volunteer, board-led organization, which means the boards lead the work of the organization, including all our lobbying advocacy, educational work, and administrative support for the chapter.  The database intern will work primarily with the President & VP of Operations.

Mass NOW uses a platform called MemberPlanet as a database to track Mass NOW members, community members, event participation, donations & email communication. We’re missing contact information for many of our members and are looking for a detail-oriented database intern to help us cross-check and update our member and community contact information. The database coordinator will use NGP VAN to update missing contact information for ~900 people and attempt to call ~1000 Mass NOW members to ask for email addresses so we can make sure they’re getting our weekly newsletters.

Stipend & Time Commitment:

We aim to review applications and hire the candidate by the end of January 2019 and would like to have the project completed by May 2019. Some in-person training is required, but then there’s flexibility to work remotely, or from the Mass NOW office in downtown Boston. There is a $2,000 stipend for this internship, to be paid in two installments.

Action & Events Communications Internships (2)

Immediate opening for two paid Action & Events Communications Team Interns, approximately 5-7 hours per week. The ideal candidate will have strong copywriting skills, a creative eye, and a keen interest in everything social media. You will work directly with the Board of Directors to help manage social accounts for the organization.

Major duties:

  • Draft copy for email and social media announcements about the Mass NOW 2019 legislative agenda including original legislation and supported third-party measures and events related to this work (call-in days, letter writing campaigns, testimonial submissions, lobby days etc)
  • Help generate ideas for social media campaigns and manage regular social media posting related to legislative advocacy work and Mass NOW events
  • Create graphics to support social media posts and emails
  • Serve as part of the events promotion team to draft communications promoting Mass NOW events
  • Participate in our “rapid response” communications team, a group of Mass NOW stakeholders who work together on an as-needed,  short notice basis to craft responses to breaking news stories and urgent legislative movements directly related to the Mass NOW Inc. mission

Qualifications:

  • Motivated feminist advocate and familiarity with Mass NOW’s mission
  • Deadline oriented and eager to learn
  • Working knowledge of at least three of the following: Facebook Business Pages, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite, Canva, WordPress Websites, Mailchimp or other email marketing software
  • Facility with concise and direct writing
  • Fluent English speaker and writer. Bi-lingual or multi-lingual a plus.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts resident
  • Ability to commit 5 to 7 hours per week to working remotely with regular one-hour meetings in Boston or via web conference
  • Ability and willingness to use a personal computer for Mass NOW work
