28th Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast
The 28th Annual Boston Area International Women’s Day Breakfast, on March 6th at 8:30am, focused on the theme: Reigniting Our Movements for Gender Equity.
It was incredibly moving to have Mayor Wu join us to honor the late Marie Turley, a Founding Mother of the International Women's Day Breakfast, and to surprise long-time moderator of the breakfast Karen Holmes Ward with the inaugural Marie Turley Founding Mother Legacy Award. Mayor Wu spoke about the profound legacy of Marie Turley, a longtime champion of gender equity in Boston. She also recognized Karen Holmes Ward's work paving the way for women of color in media and the recent conclusion of a 40+ year career at WCVB. The moment of recognition of Marie Turley's passing was one of honor, joy, and celebration.
After hearing from Mayor Wu, the panel spoke about sustaining and reigniting the fight for gender equity, in a time where women and gender minorities are experiencing the brunt of the attacks on our rights. Their diverse experiences, covering healthcare, funding, government, and advocacy, provided a wholistic perspective on gender equity. The esteemed panelists included: Aba Taylor (YW Boston), Aditi Dholakia (Boston Women’s Fund), Dallas Ducar (Fenway Health), and State Representative Sam Montaño
We hope that you left the breakfast feeling reignited. Between the 20 organizations in the resource fair, our 5 sponsors, 50 partner organizations, and 40 members of the planning committee, we at Mass NOW are feeling endlessly appreciative of community care this International Women's Day.
