Redrawing the Map: Global Movements for Menstrual Equity

On Wednesday, March 11th, the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition (MME Coalition), alongside Mass NOW and Mujeres and the Menstruators United (MAMU) Coalition, had the privilege of hosting a virtual panel, “Redrawing the Map: Global Movements for Menstrual Equity” in celebration of International Women’s Day.

This virtual panel brought together global advocates, organizers, and leaders to engage in a meaningful conversation about menstrual equity as a human rights issue, one that transcends borders, cultures, and systems.

Moderated by Katherine Blasius, Menstrual Equity Community Organizer at Mass NOW, the discussion created space for powerful dialogue on the intersections of stigma, access, policy, and cultural context across different regions of the world.

We were honored to be joined by an incredible group of speakers:

  • Jess Strait, Global Advocacy Manager at Days for Girls, who shared insights into international advocacy efforts and the importance of sustainable, community-led solutions.

  • Nachelly Lopez, Youth Activist, who brought forward the critical perspective of young people and the urgency of inclusive education and empowerment.

  • Mili Adhikari Zuckerman, from Dignified Menstruation, who spoke to the structural and cultural barriers impacting menstruators globally and emphasized dignity-centered approaches to this work.

  • Ceylan Rowe, from the FIHRI Foundation, who highlighted the importance of framing menstrual equity within a human rights context and advancing policy-driven change.

Together, these voices underscored a shared reality: while the challenges surrounding menstrual equity may manifest differently across regions, they are deeply interconnected. Stigma, lack of access to products, and systemic inequities continue to impact millions—but so does the collective power of advocacy, education, and global solidarity. This conversation reinforced the importance of learning across borders. Global movements not only inspire but actively inform local advocacy efforts, strengthening the work being done here in Massachusetts and across the United States.

The MME Coalition is deeply grateful to our speakers for their time, insight, and continued commitment to advancing menstrual equity worldwide. We also extend our appreciation to all who joined us for this important conversation and continue to stand alongside us in this movement. As we move forward, we remain committed to uplifting diverse voices, expanding access to menstrual products and education, and advocating for policies that recognize menstrual equity as a fundamental human right.
