Mass NOW and MTPC’s Second Annual Trans Period Pride

Mass NOW and MTPC’s second annual Trans Period Pride was a resounding success! And it’s thanks to you– our many partnerships and sponsors, attendees, and incredible facilitators. With over 20 attendees, we had a vibrant discussion on the diverse experiences and relationships Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender-Expansive people have with menstruation. With the support of the Mayor’s Office for LGBTQ+ Advancement, we were able to distribute gender-affirming menstrual underwear, provide meal vouchers, and work in collaboration with three incredible facilitators from MTPC: MG, Charly, and L.

We know that not all menstruators are women and that not all women menstruate, yet Trans voices are rarely uplifted in discussions on menstruation. We look forward to continuing this annual event providing a much-needed space for Trans people to discuss their menstruation experiences amongst community and allies and share resources they’ve found to be helpful. Some of the resources discussed during this Trans Period Pride included Spectrum Outfitters’s packing period underwear (here and here), Fenway Health’s Gear Program (which patients can email at TransHealth@fenwayhealth.org), and Thinkx’s black period boxers.

Last but not least– you can take action today to advance menstrual equity! Submit written testimony to the Public Health Committee, which recently heard the Ingredient Disclosure Bill and the I AM Bill. These Bills would make transparency the standard for menstrual products and would require them be provided in schools, shelters, and carceral facilities. As they decide whether to give the Bills a favorable report, you can share your story to help move them to the next step of the legislative process by using Mass NOW’s template!
